A4LD - (Automatic, 4 gears, torque convertor Lock up, overDrive) auto gearbox as fitted to early MkIIIs
A4LDe or A4LD(PE) - Same as above but with partial electronic control from the ECU for lock up and 4th gear, as fitted to later MkIIIs.
A4LDE - Same as above, but with all functions controlled by the ECU, as fitted to 95-98 Scorpios.
ABS - Anti-lock braking system
ACT - Air charge temperature (sensor)
CPS - Crankshaft Position Sensor
CV - Constant velocity (joint)
CO - Carbon monoxide (emissions)
DOHC - Double-overhead cam
ECM - Electronic control module (as ECU below)
ECT - Engine coolant temperature (sensor)
ECU - Electronic control unit (as ECM above)
EEC IV - Electronic engine control Mk IV (module)
EFI - Electronic fuel injection
EGR - Exhaust gas recirculation
EMS - Engine management system
EPT - Exhaust pressure transducer
ESC II - Electronic spark control Mk II (module)
EVR - Electronic vacuum regulator
HC - Hydrocarbons (emissions)
HEGO - Exhaust gas oxygen (sensor)
IAC - Idle air control
ICV - Idle control valve
ISC - Idle speed control (valve)
LED - Light emitting diode
LSPV - Load sensing proportioning valve
MAF - Mass air flow (sensor)
MAP - Manifold absolute pressure (sensor)
OHC - Over-head cam
OHV - Over-head valve
PTS - Pedal travel sensor
RDS - Radio Detection Signal (how your radio knows what station you're listening to.)
SRS - Secondary Restraint System (airbag)
TCA - Track control arms
TPS - Throttle position sensor
VSS - Vehicle speed sender
