The (French) Diesel Fuel Cost Story....

Post by davew »

RE: Diesel Prices In France….. (Sound familiar…. ??)

In France diesel fuel currently costs about 20c/L less that petrol - mainly due to reduced 'duty' (aka tax) on it - so ‘maybe’ this is why almost 75% of cars now sold there use it ? Perhaps therefore their car buyers also fell for the ruse that it was ‘much better for the environment’ (or some such rubbish/pretext)…? Well it turns out it isn’t, there are issues with ‘fine particles and NOx’ and so on - and on the basis of such ‘Public Health concerns’ (apparently) they are now seriously considering making diesel more expensive – again…… or, to use their phrase, ‘realigning it with the cost of petrol’.

[Incidentally they published a report there ~25 years ago that said diesel fuel fumes were ‘probably carcinogenic’. Perhaps they just forgot to mention this report at the time they were ramping-up diesel car production then ?]

So, get folks to change to something ‘cheaper/better’ then, when enough are ‘hooked’, put the prices up.
{Wait, isn’t that just how drug dealers operate ??...}

I wonder how long it will be until they all decide that 'in fact' petrol is even less ‘environmentally-friendly’ and then 're-align' (ie. raise) the cost of that, too ?
