Dave73: If you do actually plan to remove the valve springs with the head still in place (tricky but)
don't forget to get a Universal Spring Compressor that has a plug thread connector for a air compressor too !

Re: BOA Head Valve Angles & Spring Removal Tool
I would be 'inclined' to go with the Spec, sheet Dave !
Not such a high price/quality as the Ford one but lots of suitable 'Universal' Spring Compressors available for about £50 (?)

Re: 2.9i Ford (ex Granada Mk3) Engine issue, suggestions please?
'So far so good' then ..... if/when you get the chance (just) to measure the resistance across the aftermarket pots that would assist others: There are lots of chinese copies of stuff like that of course which 'look right' but don't work properly (to the extent I test everything before I install the...

Re: 2.9i Ford (ex Granada Mk3) Engine issue, suggestions please?
No updates so will presume it was the TPS, so just another potty pot. then ?! If you check the iffy (aftermarket) ones with a meter is there actually any substantial resistance change observed ? Might be useful to compare readings with the good one and post the values up on here for others with simi...

Re: New owner lot of questions
The throttle cable is only slightly adjustable - do you mean 3cm where the cable joins on is that the 'travel' in the pedal ? Again I suspect the two-way connector is just used by the Factory to test/set-up the ABS (?) Some (but not all !) Granadas have a three -way diagnostic connector to test the ...

Re: Flic 4 unit
Don't know how you found that but good detective work ..... just an ultrasonic alarm module after all ! Still don't know what the Ford abbreviation 'FLIC' is though ?! Well done on finding a VSS too - does that $170 include duties/shipping ? The Escort with the (heavy) BOA engine proved difficult to...

And this is what the potentiometer arrangement looks like from underneath:

Re: 2.9i Ford (ex Granada Mk3) Engine issue, suggestions please?
For anyone else wondering what this particular MAF is about the diagram below helps explain it........ and it is actually more common to hear it described as a Vane Air Flow Meter Had some photos showing the innards of a 2.9i Ford VAF/MAF (plus a Mazda one from the same era) but can't find them ! Ba...

Re: 2.9i Ford (ex Granada Mk3) Engine issue, suggestions please?
As it looks like you have investigated all the most obvious things my best guess is you have the early MAFs As you know they wear out (from being based on resistive carbon tracks etc) and not just on the older 2.9i (Such MAFs were not a good design, hence the move to a MAP approach instead) Similarl...

Re: New owner lot of questions
Thanks for the background history on the car - the Mayor of Salamanca ?.... Did he go to prison ? It is always handy to have (almost) a spare car body with these 'classics' for sure.. Not quite sure where that '3cm' movement on the throttle cable is - first two photos look the same - and as it is no...

Re: Flic 4 unit
Plus you could also ask ERA for a list of suppliers in your country (or nearby countries) of course ? Parts for the auto box used (a4lde) are more freely availble in the US for obvious reasons. The BOA Engine has been used in all kinds of other cars of course - but usually with a manual box: Most ex...

Re: Flic 4 unit
It was via: https://webshop.wilminkengineparts.com/ ... 93547.html
(With duties/shipping it cost over £100 and was over 4 years ago...)
As you may know ERA 550139 is another equivalent, should be available in Europe (?)

Re: Flic 4 unit
Yes, that's the VSS from an auto transmission: When it is faulty the 3-4 shift is inconsistent too....
Last one I bought was from the US: It was pricey with Import Duties and Shipping though !

Re: Flic 4 unit
Ok, so we will now assume the FLIC4 is part of an aftermarket alarm system then....!
Ah... your (confirmed !) BOA is also an early one then, with a speedo sensor like this (?):
e-bay (UK) item number 325610894233

Re: Flic 4 unit
Ok, thanks for the diagram and further explanation - although now I am not sure quite now what you mean by a 'kill' switch (as that is usually something to isolate the battery entirely !) Based on the feed to the distributor it now sounds more like it is part of an alarm/immobiliser - with those 'au...

Re: Flic 4 unit
Good idea to open it up ! Ok, not sure what you are identifying as 'positive' there though; Which colours to where exactly ? Those Red and White connectors do still tend to designate an Audio application; The chip is just a CMOS inverter which is possibly being used as a pre-amplification stage (eg....

Re: Flic 4 unit
That is curious.... and (in spite of the logo used)...does not even look like any Ford modules I have seen either.. and which usually have a FINIS number/label of course. Best guess is it is a '90 "badged" carphone accessory, maybe Motorola ? ( Microphones for these were usually on the a-p...

Re: Car phone surprises
New Cossi Owner: That's more than mere 'tinkering' surely - you are apparently at WAR with PIECES of a Car Kit ?? Not sure but the 'extra' connectors could be for speaker, mike (handsfree), maybe a facility to turn off the radio if it rings, aerial module & etc ? Obviously not Ford manufactured ...

Re: Gasket Sets and Timing Chain Kits
Longest one seems the most vulnerable guide but you just know how this generally works.... You buy the most likely suspect, open the cover then find it is not the one you expected ! If possible/viable please take a few photos as you go along, might be useful for others doing this, Hope it's not too ...
